Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy

Understand your parts. Heal your system. Change your life.

What is IFS Therapy?

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a powerful, compassionate approach to therapy that helps you understand and work with the different “parts” of yourself — the ones that protect, push, avoid, people-please, shut down, or over-function — and the deeper, more vulnerable parts they’re trying to protect.

IFS isn’t about fixing you — it’s about helping the various parts of you feel seen, heard, and understood. When that happens, healing begins from the inside out.

At your core is something called the Self — a calm, curious, confident center that can lead your system with clarity and compassion. IFS helps you reconnect with that Self and restore balance within.

How IFS Can Help

IFS is effective for:

  • Anxiety, depression, and self-doubt

  • Perfectionism and burnout

  • Trauma and emotional wounds

  • People-pleasing and boundary issues

  • Inner conflict (part of me wants this, part of me doesn’t)

  • Shame, guilt, or self-criticism

  • Feeling “stuck” in therapy or life

If you’ve ever said, “I know this logically, but I don’t feel it” — IFS bridges that gap.

Frequently asked questions about Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy

  • We all have different parts — aspects of our personality that take on roles to help us survive, succeed, or stay safe. You might have a “perfectionist,” an “inner critic,” a “caretaker,” or a “numb and checked-out” part. IFS helps us understand what these parts are doing for us — and why — without judgment.

  • Not at all. Everyone has parts. It’s completely normal. IFS is based on the idea that the mind is naturally multiple — and that this is a strength, not a flaw.

  • We’ll slow things down and listen inward — with curiosity, not judgment. I’ll guide you in connecting with a part of yourself (like anxiety or self-doubt), and we’ll explore its role, its fears, and what it needs. You don’t need to “figure it out” — we’ll let your system lead.

  • Not necessarily. Sometimes we uncover past experiences, but we do so gently and only if your system is ready. IFS is paced according to your internal world — not a script.

  • Yes — IFS integrates beautifully with EMDR, relational work, and coaching. Many of my clients move between modalities based on what’s needed. IFS becomes a lifelong tool for inner clarity and self-leadership.

  • That’s okay — that might just be another part doing its job to protect you. We’ll work with that part first. There’s no wrong way to show up in IFS.

IFS helps you move from:

  • Reactivity to calm

  • Criticism to compassion

  • Control to trust

  • Confusion to clarity

If you’re tired of pushing yourself harder and still feeling stuck, IFS helps you stop the war inside — and lead with confidence from your core Self.
